  10. 1.  SOFTWARE PACKAGE CONTENTS
  11.  
  12.      The MAD16 Pro software package contains (1) 3.5" 1.44M diskette.
  13.      - This is the DOS plus Win95 installation diskette
  14.  
  15.      The Installation diskette has the following subdirectories and 
  16.      files:

  19.           - INSTALL.COM  - Hard disk installation program
  20.           - INSTALL.DAT  - on-line help text file
  21.           - SNDINIT.EXE  - INSTALL Main Program

  24.           - SOUND16.CFG  - Device Configuration File

  40. 2.  INSTALLATION PROCESS
  41.  
  42.      During the installation of 82C929 Windows 95 driver, 
  43.      the installation program will insert a line in AUTOEXEC.BAT to 
  44.      invoke the SND4DOS program to install the 82c929 DOS driver.  
  45.      After installed the Windows 95 driver, the Windows 95 asks for 
  46.      a reboot to make the new hardware (in this case, sound device) 
  47.      to work properly. After reboot, the SND4DOS will be invoked and 
  48.      bring up the DOS driver installation program (install.com on the 
  49.      installation disk ) to install the DOS driver and remove the line 
  50.      SND4DOS inserted in AUTOEXEC.BAT.    
  51.      
  52.      Please follow the following procedure to install the software:
  53.  
  54.      1. Follow the installation guideline provided with 929 Windows 95 
  55.         driver to install the Windows 95 driver.  
  56.     
  57.      2. During the first reboot after installed the 929 Windows 95
  58.         driver, the program SND4DOS will take over. Just follow the 
  59.         instrution of SND4DOS to bring OPTi DOS Installer to setup 
  60.         the Sound Card for your Windows 95 real DOS environment.
  61.  
  62.         !! If you decide not to install at current time, you always
  63.            have a chance to re-setup your sound card support for DOS
  64.            later. Just type C:\SND4DOS at your Real Mode DOS Prompt.

  67.      DOS INSTALL.COM will do the followings for you: 
  68.      
  69.      a.) Create the directory \SOUND16 in your hard disk drive. 
  70.  
  71.      b.) Prompt you for CD-ROM and sound card options so that after
  72.          you have finished the installation and have rebooted your 
  73.          machine, you will be ready to use the sound card.
  74.  
  75.      c.) Copy the files in your floppy disk to the SOUND16 directory. 
  76.  
  77.      d.) Update your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files
  78.          In CONFIG.SYS, the following will be added:
  79.  
  80.          - DEVICE=C:\SOUND16\CDSETUP.SYS /T:S /P:340 
  81.            (assuming SONY CD-ROM)
  82.            DEVICE=C:\SOUND16\SLCD.SYS /D:MSCD000 /B:340

  84.          In AUTOEXEC.BAT:
  85.  
  86.          - PATH=C:\SOUND16 (appended)
  87.            SET SOUND16=C:\SOUND16
  88.            C:\SOUND16\SNDINIT /B
  89.            SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4

  93. 3.  GETTING HELP ABOUT SNDINIT.EXE
  94.  
  95.      You can issue the following command to get information 
  96.      about sndinit.exe:
  97.  
  98.      - SNDINIT /?
  99.

  101. 4.  VOLUME CONTROL TSR PROGRAM
  102.  
  103.      The volume control memory resident program, VOLTSR.EXE, allows
  104.      you to change volume using hot keys while you are in a DOS 
  105.      application. The hot keys are:
  106.  
  107.         Ctrl-Alt-U      Raises the volume
  108.         Ctrl-Alt-D      Lowers the volume
  109.         Ctrl-Alt-M      Mute
  110.  
  111.      For example, pressing the CTRL, ALT, and U keys will raise 
  112.      the volume.
  113.  
  114.      You need to load the TSR before you can use it. To load the TSR,
  115.      type VOLTSR at the DOS prompt.

  118. 5.  KARAOKE PROGRAM
  119.  
  120.      The Karaoke.exe program allows user to control the input volume
  121.      of the microphone on the fly with "HOT KEYS." Before using 
  122.      Karaoke, the VOLTSR.EXE program must be successfully loaded
  123.      and running.
  124.  
  125.      To enable Karaoke Mode, type: "KARAOKE ON" at the DOS prompt.
  126.  
  127.      To increase MIC input, use: Ctrl-Alt-PageUp
  128.      To decrease MIC input, use: Ctrl-Alt-PageDown
  129.  
  130.      To disable Karaoke Mode, type: "KARAOKE OFF" at the DOS prompt.

  133. 6.  CD-ROM Interface Setup Device Driver
  134.  
  135.      The CD-ROM Setup Device Driver is called CDSETUP.SYS. This 
  136.      driver sets up the interface of your CD-ROM to the MAD16 sound
  137.      card. Each time you change or add a CD-ROM to your sound card. 
  138.      The line "DEVICE=CDSETUP.SYS..." will be added to the first line 
  139.      of your CONFIG.SYS file before the CD-ROM device driver line. 
  140.      CDSETUP.SYS is defined as follows:
  141.      
  142.      DEVICE=[drive:]\[directory]\CDSETUP.SYS /T:[M/S/P/I/X] /P:[addr] 
  143.             /I:[IRQ] /D:[DMA]  
  144.  
  145.      [drive] = drive where you have the driver installed
  146.      [directory] = directory where the driver is located
  147.      [M/S/P/I/X] = M stands for Mitsumi
  148.                    S stands for SONY
  149.                    P stands for PANASONIC
  150.                    I stands for IDE drive
  151.                    X stands for disabled
  152.  
  153.      [address] = Port address for CD-ROM (320, 330, 340, 360)

  155.      [IRQ] = Interrupt number (5,7,9,10,11)

  157.      [DMA] = DMA channel (0, 1, 3)

  159.      For example, the following line sets up the interface for a 
  160.      Mitsumi CD-ROM:

  162.      DEVICE=C:\SOUND16\CDSETUP.SYS /T:M /P:340 /I:10

  164.      If you did not specify the /I or /D options, CDSETUP will 
  165.      automatically choose the default setting for the CD-ROM type 
  166.      your have specified.
  167.  
  168.      - For Mitsumi, the IRQ is 10 and DMA is disabled.
  169.      - For SONY, they are both disabled.
  170.      - FOR PANASONIC, they are both disabled.
  171.  
  172.      For IDE drive, you need to just specify the /T:I option. 
  173.      Specifying any other option in addition to this will be ignored.
  174.      The I/O Port and Interrupt for IDE is located at 170H and Int 15.
